It's the second round of monthly makes here at Tremor Textiles!

If you’re anything like me, your glasses are constantly on and off when stitching. This glasses case is quick to put together and perfect for keeping your lenses scratch free among the chaos of your sewing desk.

Glasses case:

You will need:

  • Felt – This will form the main body of your glasses case. I use a piece roughly 13x6 inches, but you can really make this any size you like to suit the shape of your glasses. I also chose a neutral colour as the design I chose is quite colourful, but feel free to go wild with your colour choices.

  • Scrap fabric – You can chose what ever design you like for your case. I went with a simple flower design, and chose my fabrics from my scrap stash.

  • Thread – I used colours that complimented my design, but use whichever colours you like to compliment your design and aesthetic.

  • Embellishments – you really can go crazy with your design on your glasses case. Feel free to add any ribbons, buttons and beads of your choosing to liven up your design.

No free motion/darning foot? No problem.

This glasses case can also be made with a regular foot, just adapt your design accordingly.

How to make:

1.       First, collect your materials together and cut your felt to size.

2.       Fold your felt in half lengthways and press down firmly to create a crease across the centre – you can mark the half crease with a pen if you would like to. This will help for laying out your design to make sure it is visible when you sew your case together.

3.       Lay out your design on the fabric. You can pin it or use an adhesive spray if you’d like to.

4.       Begin to stitch on your design, using as many pieces of scrap fabric and different threads as you like. I chose this flower design, so I stitched the petals first, followed by the centre to create a nice layered effect, and finished with the leaves and stem. Remember to take your time, and just have fun with it!

5.       Once you have stitched your design, it’s time to put your case together. Fold the felt in half lengthways along your crease, and pin together to ensure the two edges don’t move when sewing.

6.       Sew along the bottom width and then the long edge, leaving the top short edge open – we need this opening to slip the glasses in and out of the case.

7.       And there you have it, your completed case. You can also give it a press just to finish things off.

Your glasses case is now complete, and whipped together in as little as 15 mins. This is the perfect sewing room essential accessory that can be hand made with the scraps in your stash, and add a little bit of personalisation to your sewing space. This would also make an excellent last minute gift that skips out on price, but not on thought!

If you followed this tutorial, we’d love to see it! Make sure to tag us in your finished project photos and use the hashtag #tremorchaoscollective. I can’t wait to see your glasses cases!
