Do you have that plain old shirt hanging in your wardrobe that you never want to wear anymore? This is a perfect quick craft to add a unique twist to the simplest of garments.

If your anything like me, you have a fair few plain old shirts at the back of the wardrobe from the days spent working long hours in hospitality. Or maybe a shirt that fits well, but the colour is no longer your vibe. Its time to switch it up with this little embroidery touch that can add a bit of personal style to a forgotten item.
Embroidered Shirt Collar:
You will need:
An old shirt – lighter coloured ones are perfect for this. Or, if you just want to give this tutorial a try, you can buy plain shirts from shops like H&M and Primark.

Thread – You can use as many or as few threads as you like. I chose some autumnal colours for my floral design.
Heat erasable pen – This is used for drawing on your design. You can buy these kinds of pens in your usual stationary shops or craft stores.
How to make:
1. First, I find it helpful to have a look for some inspiration for your design on social media, Pinterest in particular has a wide range of examples. Or, if you already have a design in mind, head straight to step 2.

2. Using your heat erasable pen, sketch your design on your shirt collar. Make sure not to make it too small or complex, especially if you are still new to freemotion embroidery.
3. Now its time for the fun part. Thread your machine and get stitching. Make sure to take your time with this and don’t go too fast, as undoing it all isn’t an option. Just let your creativity flow and enjoy the process.

4. Once you are happy with your design, its time to relax. You did it, and I’m sure it looks great. Now all that’s left is to get rid of the pen marks. You can use a hairdryer to do this, or even just an iron as the finishing touch to your embroidered shirt.
Congratulations, you have officially upcycled an old unloved shirt into a unique garment, that you’re actually going to want to wear! Embroidering on clothing like this has endless possibilities, so go wild and transform your wardrobe!
